Behind the design

SpareBank 1 is one of the largest banks in Norway, with 14 local branches. In our redesign process, we found a language of unity, localness, friendliness and variety across the visual identity. The typeface plays with this in a distinct way: roundness, typically seen as a cliché ‘friendly’ feature, is emphasised by avoiding softness, and by introducing more width variety and straightness to the Titling styles. This gives the main identity-bearing typeface a distinct flavour, one of variety and fun, recognisable at first glance.

The primary type family consists of five weights with matching italics, for use across all media and platforms, from app to billboard. The three Titling styles are meant for short phrases, titles, and other big, loud and more playful settings. The roundness that defines the family is present everywhere, and language support covers a wide range of Latin alphabets, with a special focus on Norway and the Sámi languages.
